I am a Luthier based in Fremantle, Western Australia, with 30 years experience making high quality musical instruments.
I primarily produce high end classical guitars both modern and 19th century reproductions. I also produce steel stringed acoustic guitars, Mandolins and Ukuleles for professional musicians and amateurs alike. All of my instruments are hand made using solid wood construction and are finished in either French polish and modern lacquer finishes.
My background in music began as a guitar student when I was 10 years old. My wood working began at a very young age though. As at the son of a carpenter I grew up with the mentorship and support of a skilled craftsman. I was and still am an obsessive maker. The passion for the lutherie started when fixing an old arch top guitar at the age of 13, from which I used the remaining undamaged machine heads on a ukulele I then made. Then came the great grand fathers banjo. At 15 I was given an early Richard Howell guitar to learn on. That was the turning point as a player and inspired luthier. The magic of a responsive instrument captivated my imagination and it grew from there. My first full sized guitar classical guitar was made when I was 18 years old while studying a music performance degree.
